Water losses (a significant component of Non-Revenue Water Loss) are an increasing concern for governments, local administrations, and distribution companies. Globally, in 2019, losses were estimated at 126 billion cubic meters, equivalent to nearly 40 billion USD. The issue becomes even more critical in the context of climate change, with cities experiencing average losses ranging from 5% to 80% of total volume, depending on the region. The financial impact is substantial, access to a vital resource is diminishing, and the defects that cause these losses serve as contamination sources for water supplies.
